Beautifully tailored 1940s tweed jacket, never worn, still carrying its original sales label on the sleeve. Made by Burtons of Leeds one of Britains foremost tailoring houses. Tailored in wearable lightweight brown wool tweed the jacket features a gently fitted waist, double pockets, and traditional button placement. Burtons mainly tailored men’s suits but during and just after the war produced exceptional quality women’s tailoring as part of their “Utility” and post war collections as women entered the workforce. This women’s cut in immaculate condition is a scarce example of wartime or immediate post war womenswear. The fabric remains strong and crisp the lining immaculate and all in wearable condition. Very rarely seen in such condition the jacket is utterly wearable now. Reserve the labels for a legacy piece with wonderful history attached to it. Size 8-10.
