This vintage gem is from the Shirley Watts collection (Rolling Stones drummer Charley Watts' wife); the shoes are unworn and made of purple silk embroidered with white flowers. The edging is rolled gold leather, as are the borders to the ankle strap used to close them. The curved red heel and sole are very much a trend of Ford's mature, polished and sophisticated designs during his time at YSL. They are also remarkably comfortable to wear!
Tom Ford was a Creative Director at YSL from 1999 to 2004. He was already known for his work at Gucci, where he helped turn the brand into a global powerhouse. When Gucci Group acquired YSL, Ford became the director of both brands.
